Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 (February 27, 2010) Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a small town located on the West Island, which is part of Montreal's island. It is the West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is a large region that runs from Lachine all the way west. Amanda Brugel is said to be born on the West Island. But this isn't the truth. Brugel was raised on Courtice close to Oshawa in Ontario. She was determined to be a professional dancer but because of a huge expansion, she surpassed every dance partner she met. In an article from The Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. Once I surpassed my male counterparts, I stopped. Many former dancers turn to acting and in the case of Brugel it was the result of a recommendation from her high school drama teacher. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to pursue a role for the annual school production. The audition was successful and she was chosen as Anne of Green Gables. It led to an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Since then, Brugel has been in over 60 productions both smaller and large. Most notable was when she landed the role of Rita on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the only Canadian actor during Season 1 of the series and only appeared on occasion.
